The basis of outcome-based treatment

The basis for a thorough examination and effective treatment of diseases is the cooperation between the treating physician and the patient. The first step

The first step in determining an accurate urological diagnosis is to take a detailed history and record your complaints. Therefore, it is important to bring your previous medical records (urological and other fields), make a list of your current medications, and indicate any drug sensitivities, as well as previous surgeries and illnesses. It is advisable to collect urine before your appointment, as this will allow for an ultrasound examination of the bladder, as well as an evaluation of your urination and urine sample. You should also report your current complaints and previous treatments.

The physical examination

The urological physical examination includes the inspection and palpation of the abdomen, kidneys and genitals. One of the procedures that is most often reserved is the rectal prostate examination, which can be omitted at the patient's request. However, it is important not to delay visiting a urologist if you have any complaints. The prostate examination is similar to a gynecological vaginal examination: a procedure performed with appropriate empathy and expertise that does not cause significant discomfort. In an office equipped with ultrasound, it is possible to conduct a more thorough examination of the kidneys, bladder, prostate, seminal vesicles, testicles and epididymis, and, if necessary, a laboratory analysis of urine. In men over 50, it is also recommended to check the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level as part of a comprehensive examination.
